Humility and Gratitude…
When we bought our house in 2006, we started working on the garden in 2008. We found remnants from the Second World War everywhere, when the railway line in Uedemerbruch became the scene of a trench warfare with many deaths.
Helmets, canisters, cartridges, remains of weapons and mortars abound. Then as now, an oppressive feeling crept over us when we think of the endless suffering from that time.
We never thought it possible that there could be war in Europe again. As we witness a beautiful sunrise this morning and watch the beginning of spring in the garden, a peaceful country less than 1,000 kilometers away is about to be invaded because it has chosen democracy.
It must not be the case today that one person alone has the power and madness to kill peaceful people and cause great harm to his own people.
Full of gratitude for our life in freedom, we go into our spring garden today and enjoy the fresh colors.
